Hush Blankets, once a rising star in the cosy blanket industry, has attracted a lot of attention for its marketing presence, especially after its appearance on “Dragon’s Den”. However, despite its strong brand image and product promises, customer experiences paint a very different picture.

Customer Service: A Nightmare in Disguise

One of the most alarming problems with Hush Blankets is their abysmal customer service. Many customers have reported not being able to contact the company after making a purchase to inquire about the status of their order. Some of the most common complaints are:

  • Orders being put on hold: Customers have found that their orders have been on hold for weeks or even months without being updated.
  • Customer enquiries ignored: Attempts to contact the company by email, phone or live chat often went unanswered.
  • Complaints on social media as a last resort: Some customers only received a response after publicly bashing Hush Blankets on Twitter or Instagram.
  • Lack of transparency: Customers often had to persistently ask for updates, with responses ranging from vague delivery times to complete silence.
  • Delayed or denied refunds: Many reported difficulties in receiving refunds. Some stated that refunds were only processed after lengthy back and forth conversations or even chargeback disputes with their bank.

Problems with shipping: delays and excuses following the same pattern

Shipping delays are a constant problem at Hush Blankets. Customers who had purchased products hoping to receive them within a reasonable amount of time had to wait months. Some reported that:

  • Products remained in “label created” status for weeks: Orders were labelled as “shipped” but tracking numbers showed no movement.
  • Pre-orders were misleading: early delivery dates were often given on the website but then not updated.
  • Christmas orders were not fulfilled on time: Many who had purchased Hush Blankets as Christmas gifts were left empty-handed as the company refused to cancel or refund orders.
  • Chargebacks became the only option: Some customers disputed the charges with their bank, but those who waited too long often didn’t get the benefit of the chargeback and lost hundreds of dollars.

Product quality: Mixed reviews

While some customers praised the quality of Hush Blankets, others expressed serious concerns. The most common product-related complaints include:

  • Overpriced for the quality: many noted that cheaper alternatives from Amazon offer similar or better quality at a fraction of the price.
  • Poorly designed covers: Some customers found that the covers were difficult to handle and that zips and buttons broke easily.
  • Weight issues: Some customers found the blankets too heavy, making them uncomfortable to use.
  • Fabric durability issues: Several customers reported that their blankets or sheets wore out quickly and the fabric cracked or deformed within a few months.
  • False claims about “cooling” sheets: Some customers felt that the “cooling” feature was ineffective and did not justify the high price.

Refund and return policy: More of a trap than a guarantee

Hush Blankets claims to offer a 100-day return policy, but customer experiences suggest that it is difficult to actually exercise this right. Problems include:

  • Returns were actively discouraged: Customers had to go to great lengths to obtain a return label, and in some cases the labels were never delivered.
  • Non-refundable return fees: Customers often had to pay a return fee even though they were misled about product availability and shipping times.
  • Refused returns: Some customers reported that Hush refused to accept returned packages, even when they had supposedly authorised a return.
  • Disputed refunds: Refunds took an inordinate amount of time or were denied without explanation.

Change of ownership: a turning point for the worse

An important turning point for Hush Blankets was the acquisition by Sleep Country Canada Holdings for 48 million dollars. Since the sale, customer service and operations have deteriorated, leading many to surmise that the original founders (Aaron and Lior) wanted to make money rather than maintain product quality and customer satisfaction.

Final Verdict: Avoid Hush Blankets

While some customers have had positive experiences with Hush Blankets, the overwhelming number of complaints about customer service, delivery delays, refund issues, and misleading advertising make this company highly unreliable. Considering the high price of Hush products, it’s hard to justify buying from this company given the lack of accountability and constant service failures.
Don’t buy from Hush Blankets unless you’re willing to risk a frustrating, drawn-out battle for your money. If you do decide to make a purchase, make sure you do so through a third-party seller like Amazon that at least offers a solid refund policy.
